Starting today, department-level benchmarking is available in the Provametrics dashboard for all Growth and Enterprise customers. This feature lets you compare productivity metrics, automation adoption rates, and return on investment across every department in your organization, all from a single view.
Until now, Provametrics provided company-wide and individual team metrics. That worked well for understanding overall performance, but it left a gap for organizations that need to compare how different departments are performing relative to each other. Department benchmarking closes that gap by giving operations leaders, department heads, and executives a clear picture of where AI and automation are delivering results and where additional support or investment may be needed.
Different departments adopt AI tools at different rates, and for good reason. A customer support team working with high-volume, repetitive inquiries may see rapid adoption and immediate productivity gains from an AI-powered response assistant. Meanwhile, a product development team may take longer to integrate AI into their workflows because their tasks are less structured and require more creative judgment.
Without a way to benchmark these departments against each other, leadership teams often draw the wrong conclusions. A department with lower automation adoption is not necessarily underperforming. It may simply have workflows where AI adds less value, or it may need a different type of support to realize the same gains that other teams are seeing. Benchmarking provides the context to tell the difference.
We built this feature because our customers kept asking the same question: "We know AI is helping overall, but which departments are getting the most value and which ones need attention?" Answering that question with data rather than assumptions is exactly what department benchmarking is designed to do.
Department benchmarking integrates directly into your existing Provametrics dashboard. There is no additional setup required if your organization has already configured department groupings in your account settings.
Automatic department grouping. Provametrics uses your existing organizational structure to group employees and teams into departments. If you have already tagged team members with department labels, benchmarking is ready to use immediately. If not, you can configure department groupings in your account settings in under five minutes.
Side-by-side metric comparison. The benchmarking view presents departments in a comparative layout, displaying key metrics side by side. You can compare two departments directly or view all departments in a ranked overview. Each metric is normalized for department size, so a 10-person team and a 50-person team can be compared on equal footing.
Drill-down capability. Click into any department to see the detailed metrics driving its benchmark score. From there, you can drill down further into individual teams or specific workflow categories. This layered approach lets you start with the big picture and investigate specific areas of interest without losing context.
Customizable time ranges. Benchmark comparisons can be viewed across any time range your account has data for. Compare departments over the last 30 days, the last quarter, or since the beginning of your Provametrics deployment. Time-range flexibility is especially useful for tracking how departments respond to new tool deployments or process changes over time.
Department benchmarking supports the full range of Provametrics metrics, organized into five key categories that give you a comprehensive view of each department's performance.
Automation rate by department. See what percentage of each department's workflows have been automated, and how that rate has changed over time. This metric helps you identify departments that may benefit from additional automation support as well as departments where automation has reached a natural ceiling.
Time saved per team. Measure the total hours reclaimed through automation and AI tools in each department. This metric is calculated by comparing current workflow completion times against the baseline measurements established during your initial Provametrics deployment. It provides a concrete, defensible measure of where automation is delivering real time savings.
AI tool adoption percentage. Track what proportion of each department's eligible workforce is actively using deployed AI tools on a weekly basis. High deployment rates with low adoption rates often indicate training gaps or poor tool-workflow fit, both of which are actionable insights that benchmarking makes visible.
Cost savings breakdown. View the estimated dollar value of productivity gains in each department, broken down by labor cost savings, reduced error rates, and decreased tool redundancy. This metric translates time-based improvements into financial terms that resonate with executive stakeholders and budget owners.
Productivity index score. A composite score that combines output volume, quality metrics, and efficiency measures into a single benchmark number for each department. The productivity index is weighted based on your organization's priorities, which you can configure in your dashboard settings. This score makes it easy to identify outliers in both directions and prioritize where to focus improvement efforts.
Department-level benchmarking is available now for all customers on the Growth and Enterprise plans. If you are already on one of these plans, you will see the new Benchmarking tab in your dashboard navigation the next time you log in. No updates or migrations are required.
If your organization has not yet configured department groupings, you can set them up in Settings under Organization Structure. The setup takes about five minutes and can be updated at any time as your team structure evolves.
For customers on the Starter plan who want access to department benchmarking, upgrading to Growth unlocks this feature along with advanced reporting, custom metric definitions, and priority support.
